Our partners at Zemoga developed the concept for an AI-based companion to help patients stay engaged and motivated in their path to a healthier, more balanced life
In our latest report, the Future of Health, we explores how the role of data in healthcare has evolved from a static into a living profile that grows with patients. To help bring the ideas and actionable take-aways to life, PSFK invited creative studios to leverage report findings and ideate a new ways to approach health. The following is a concept from Zemoga, who set out to imagine what an always-on, chat based health assistant would look like.
Challenge:
We’re becoming more conscious about the importance of being and living well. We try our best to eat better, stay active and implement better habits in order to live a healthier life. However, this turns out to be a very challenging endeavor. It takes will and discipline, but more than anything, it requires knowledge. In the process of finding our path, we discover different sources of guidance
but very soon it becomes very difficult to filter all of the information, so we end up experimenting with everything, failing and getting demotivated early in the process.
Solution:
Imagine a friend that went to the best medical schools, read the latest research papers, is a certified physical trainer, knows everything there is to know about nutrition, knows where the best places to buy your food are and is always available to you. We’ve envisioned a companion that knows what it needs to know about you, your goals and routines in order to provide informed advice and guide you on your path to a better, healthier life.
This friend is like a chat-based concierge (50% machine learning, 50% human) that provides timely and relevant advice to help you live well. The AI-based engine offers a 100% bespoke experience based on scientific knowledge, the user’s medical records and preferences, along with input provided directly by the user and via wearables.
1 | One friend for everyone
In this experience, you’re supposed to interact with someone that feels like a friend, so as part of the onboarding experience, we invite you to select one of our personas, which involves choosing between different traits, styles and personalities.
2 | Helping you make better choices
WellMate has access to your location and knows the menus and inventory of restaurants, grocery stores and other suppliers in your area. A quick analysis of the data allows it to make timely recommendations.
3 | Helping you stay active
The logic behind the app can help you create your own workout plan according to your goals and preferences. It can also adapt if something unplanned happens and evolves according to your progress.
4 | Reminding you about the basics
Do you have a doctor’s appointment? Will you remember to take your medication? WellMate has access to your calendar and learns about the medical treatments you’re undertaking by taking a look at your medical records.
5 | Finding help when you need more than just a quick chat
Did you break your ankle and can’t move? WellMate can help you call an ambulance or simply make a doctor’s appointment for you if that’s what you need.
6 | Giving you a boost when you need it
By tracking sleep patterns and levels of activity via a wearable bracelet, WellMate can suggest tweaks to your routine or give relevant advice on the fly.
